Welcome to the Apple Valley Woodturners!
Located in Winchester, VA, we are the Shenandoah Valley Area group that meets regularly to share their enthusiasm about all things related to woodturning and to have some fun along the way.
February’s Meeting
It was announced that Jeff Lefkowitz (he is a graphics artist) has volunteered to take the collected input from older attempts to create a pamphlet advertizing the club.
Dick Krehling ask if club members would be willing to pay between $300 and $400 for professional demonstrators to put on demos for us. He suggested that as some clubs we could charge $5 for those attending and allow the demonstrator to put on half or all days workshops in the days preceding the meeting. Dick was ask to come up with specific recommendations for discussion next meeting.
John Robinson delivered pictures of members works taken at the last meeting. These were greatly appreciated and enjoyed by all.
Dan has gotten the projector operating and was used for the first time for Roberts Demo.
Robert Van Meter did two demonstrations:
· A Natural edge bowl from a green Ash log, he explained that with this type of bowl you can turn it to a finished thickness (you could see light shine thru the sides when he finished). The bowl will change shape when allowed to dry but since it is natural edge this just enhances the project.
· A regular bowl blank from the same log. With this type of project you must leave a wall thickness of 10% of the width of the bowl. This allows one to have enough wall thickness to return the bowl once it dries and changes shape.
